The British weather can never be described as boring – and talking about it is one of the nation’s favourite pastimes.

In fact, studies have shown that more than half of us will turn a chat towards meteorological matters at least once every six hours.

However, the Irish writer and poet Oscar Wilde disagreed with such climatological conversations, and once remarked that speaking about the weather was the “last refuge of the unimaginative”.
