13 Apprentices join regional depots
TNT Post, the UK’s second largest private postal provider, is offering Mail Services Apprenticeships up to Level 2 in a bid to invest in and develop the skills of local, talented individuals seeking to succeed in the working world.
Incorporating two qualifications, the paid apprenticeship scheme, assisted by First4Skills, includes a Mail Services qualification (England) and a Distribution & Warehousing qualification (Scotland). The apprentices will rotate through various roles at TNT Post depots across the country, be expected to study for their qualification portfolio and attend monthly meetings with an appointed First4Skills tutor who will review their progress, sign off units, set additional work and discuss upcoming initiatives.
From processing mail through a mail sorting machine, to quality checks on postcode return addresses and bagging and tagging outgoing mail, apprentices will work both in teams and individually, adopting an eye for detail and the ability to work under pressure and to fixed deadlines.
The focus of the one-year apprenticeship scheme is to fulfil the potential of each and every apprentice who completes it. Apprentices will be assigned a mentor, and a buddy from within TNT Post who will guide and support their day-to-day work activities, then will be provided access to all the facilities, training and workplace opportunities required to complete the programme to their fullest ability.
Feedback from apprentices so far has been extremely positive, with Jason Jones enthusing that he is “looked after better than his first job” and “absolutely loving it!” and Laura Glover exclaiming that she is “very happy” to be working on high profile accounts, including Vision and Intellistar.
Through the apprenticeship scheme, TNT Post seeks to produce home grown talent for the future expansion of the business, in addition to investing in young people who will either grow with the business or take their new found skills with them in a future career outside of the company. TNT Post prides itself on consistency and excellence within the business, and continuously aims to attract talent with true potential.
Nick Wells, CEO of TNT Post UK, said:
“We are delighted to be offering these new apprenticeships to young people who want to succeed in business. At TNT Post we are always looking to attract new talent to our business and are excited to introduce a scheme which offers apprentices the opportunity to really excel in personal and professional development. We are committed to tackling youth unemployment and getting young people in to work, and this is another step we are taking to help those who need it most.”
