Drivers in the road haulage and passenger carrying industry (lorries, buses and coaches) are required to hold a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) in addition to a vocational driving licence.

A driver who has undertaken the CPC qualification has received in-depth training to help them be safer on the road, use less fuel, improve productivity and even help you build excellent customer relations.

If you are thinking of becoming a driver of heavy goods vehicles, you must first complete and pass a Driver CPC Initial Qualification which consists of 4 parts; a theory test, case studies test, driving ability test and a practical demonstration test.

However, if you are a bus or coach driver and gained your vocational license before September 2008 or you are a lorry driver and gained your licence by September 2009, you will not need to complete the initial qualification as your previous experience is accepted as equal to this.

After successfully passing the initial qualification, you will be issued with a driver qualification card which is valid for five years and you must keep with you at all times when driving professionally.

Once you reach this stage, you can apply for your Driver CPC training.  This entails undertaking 35 hours of training within 5 modules which you need to complete in order to qualify. To apply, you must find an approved JAUPT registered trainer and training centre near you and book the courses that you need.

At TNT Post we offer courses for the Driver CPC training, each counting towards seven hours of the required 35 hours of training. These courses are:
