Jayne Stephenson has been a TNT Postie since joining us in August 2012 at our Shepherds Bush depot.  Being part of the end-to-end delivery service team, Jayne’s main role involves her sorting and delivering mail items for the areas that she covers within and around Shepherds Bush.

We spoke with Jayne and asked her a few questions about herself and life at TNT Post…

1) Tell us a bit about your self

After being made redundant from my job at the bank, I became unemployed and on benefits.  I also suffered with depression due to the loss of my job and trying to find something else that I wanted to do.  Whilst I was out one day I noticed some TNT Posties on bikes and asked them where to go to speak about becoming a Postie.  They directed me to the Depot at Shepherds Bush where I met the Delivery Manager (central London), David Baker, who I explained to that I was looking for a new job that involved me being outdoors.  David got me an interview and supported me through my interviews.  During my time as being a Postie I have also been a cyclist trainer and a Buddy.  Being with TNT Post has built my confidence and now I don’t turn any opportunities down.

2) As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?

A Policewoman – this is because I don’t like people being on the wrong side of the law.

3) How long have you been at TNT Post UK?

I have been with TNT Post for over a year now.

4) What have been your highlights at TNT Post UK?

Oh there have been lots of things. One of the biggest has to be my recent trip to Manchester where I was asked to visit our new Posties at their training days to talk to them about my life with TNT Post, to demonstrate the positives to being a Postie.  I was also invited by Gary Robinson, our Director of End-to-End, to attend a Health and Safety speech he was giving to local authorities within Manchester about the fitness benefits that can be gained from being a TNT Postie, which is something I have gained since joining.

5) List three words you would use to describe yourself

Hardworking, honest and committed.

6) What has been your proudest achievement? (doesn’t have to be work related)

Outside of work, has to be my children and grandchildren but I would still pick being a TNT Postie as one of my proudest achievements.  This is because it has brought me more confidence, opportunities and high hopes for building a career.  I feel that there is still a future for me to look forward to and it keeps me going and gives me strength.  I am happier now than I have ever been in previous jobs.

7) What do you enjoy the most about your job role?

I get the chance to be out in the fresh air and see all my work colleagues.  I look forward to going to work, although I may be grumpy getting out of bed, by the time that I'm up, on my way to the depot and see all my colleagues, I am smiling.  They cheer me up so much and are a great team to work with, always supporting and helping one another.

8) If you were stranded on a desert island, name one person and two items that you would want with you

It would have to be my partner Frank and then probably my duvet and pillow as I do enjoy the feeling of being comfy, tucked up and warm.
